Movers Tooting Health and Safety Policy
Movers Tooting is committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety in all aspects of our removal and relocation services. This policy sets out our approach to protecting our employees, customers, contractors, visitors and members of the public from injury, ill health and property damage. Health and safety is an integral part of our planning and decision making, and we aim to continually improve our performance.
Our Health and Safety Objectives
Our main objectives are to prevent accidents and work-related ill health, to provide safe and healthy working conditions, and to promote a positive safety culture across the business. We aim to identify hazards associated with moving, lifting, packing, loading, transport and storage, and to put proportionate controls in place to reduce risks as far as is reasonably practicable.
Senior management is responsible for providing the leadership, resources and support necessary to achieve these objectives. Every employee is expected to cooperate with this policy and take reasonable care for their own safety and the safety of others who may be affected by their actions.
Legal Responsibilities and Management Duties
Movers Tooting will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation, regulations and recognised industry standards that apply to removal and transport operations. We will regularly review changes in legal requirements and adjust our procedures to remain compliant.
Management will ensure that:
Clear responsibilities for health and safety are defined and communicated to all levels of staff. Suitable and sufficient risk assessments are carried out for all significant activities, including manual handling, use of vehicles, use of equipment and working at height. Appropriate control measures are implemented, monitored and reviewed to maintain safe systems of work. Incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions are reported, recorded and investigated, with corrective actions taken to prevent recurrence.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees of Movers Tooting share responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment. Each team member must follow company procedures, cooperate with supervisors, and use equipment correctly. Employees are required to:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work. Follow safe working practices for lifting, carrying, packing, loading, unloading and driving. Use personal protective equipment provided by the company whenever it is required. Report hazards, defects in equipment, unsafe practices or any health and safety concerns to management without delay. Refrain from horseplay, misuse of equipment or any behaviour that could compromise safety.
Risk Assessments and Safe Working Practices
Risk assessments will be completed for key activities carried out by Movers Tooting, including house and office removals, packing services, use of lifting aids, vehicle loading and unloading, and operations in confined or restricted spaces. These assessments will identify potential hazards such as manual handling injuries, slips and trips, falling objects, vehicle movements and property damage.
Based on these assessments, we will implement safe systems of work, including safe lifting techniques, team lifting where necessary, correct stacking and securing of loads, and clear communication between team members. We will ensure that routes within properties are kept as clear as reasonably possible to minimise the risk of slips, trips and collisions.
Training, Supervision and Competence
Movers Tooting recognises that effective training and supervision are essential to safe operations. All employees will receive induction training that covers general health and safety, company rules, emergency procedures and reporting methods. Job-specific training will be provided for manual handling, packing and wrapping techniques, use of trolleys and lifting equipment, and safe vehicle operation.
Only trained and authorised personnel will drive company vehicles or operate specialist equipment. Supervisors will monitor working practices, provide guidance and intervene where unsafe behaviour or conditions are observed. Refresher training will be provided periodically and whenever there are significant changes to work processes or equipment.
Vehicles, Equipment and Maintenance
Our vehicles, tools and equipment are essential to safe removals. Movers Tooting will ensure that all vehicles are maintained in a roadworthy condition, inspected regularly and serviced in line with manufacturer recommendations and legal requirements. Daily or pre-use checks will be carried out by drivers to identify defects or safety concerns.
Removal equipment such as sack trucks, dollies, ramps, straps, blankets and lifting aids will be inspected for damage, stored correctly and replaced when necessary. Only equipment that is in good working order will be used on site. Any defects must be reported immediately so that the item can be taken out of service and repaired or replaced.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
We recognise our responsibility to protect customers, their property and members of the public while we are working. Our teams will take reasonable steps to prevent damage to buildings, fixtures, fittings and goods by using suitable protection and handling methods. Where possible, work areas will be organised to minimise obstruction and clearly identify any trip or slip hazards created by equipment or packed items.
Special care will be taken when working in shared spaces, communal entrances, stairwells and areas open to the public. Where necessary, our teams will use signage or verbal warnings to make people aware of hazards. We will endeavour to keep noise, dust and disturbance to a minimum during our operations.
Welfare, Wellbeing and Fitness for Work
Movers Tooting is committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our employees. We will provide access to basic welfare facilities such as rest breaks, drinking water and sanitary arrangements during working hours, whether at our premises or on site. Employees are encouraged to report any health concerns that may affect their ability to work safely, including fatigue, illness or injury.
The company has zero tolerance for working under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Any employee who is considered unfit for work due to substance use or other factors will be removed from duty and further action may be taken in line with company procedures.
Emergency Preparedness and Incident Reporting
Movers Tooting will maintain procedures for dealing with emergencies such as fire, accidents, vehicle collisions, sudden ill health and serious property damage. Employees will be instructed in emergency arrangements relevant to their work, including how to initiate emergency response and how to evacuate premises safely when required.
All accidents, injuries and near misses must be reported to management as soon as practicable. Records will be maintained and reviewed to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Where appropriate, incidents will be investigated to determine root causes and to implement corrective and preventive actions.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy will be monitored and reviewed at least annually, and whenever there are significant changes in our operations, staffing, equipment or external requirements. Feedback from employees and customers will be considered as part of this process.
Through regular review, training and open communication, Movers Tooting aims to continually improve its health and safety performance and to provide a safe, reliable removal service for all customers.
